Chris Pearmund to purchase 2 brands from the Robert Mondavi portfolio

The historic deal brings California wines to Virginia

 [4/1/2023], [Broad Run], [VA]. – Chris Pearmund, founder of leading Virginia wineries Pearmund Cellars, Vint Hill Craft Winery and Effingham Manor has announced that he has purchased two brands from the Iconic Robert Mondavi portfolio of wines.  The all cash deal for Opus One and Robert Mondavi Coastal, was finalized yesterday at an undisclosed price, with the wines being transferred on April 1st. 

“Virginia has been ripe for a major west coast winery conglomerate to buy a winery here for a decade. We are tired of waiting, so we turned the table” said Pearmund.  “We have considered purchasing a significant Napa brand for some time and are excited to have finished the deal.  The Mondavi and Opus One names are synonymous with quality,” Mr. Pearmund offered, “and it is that quality that will complement the special wines currently in our house.  While making Virginia Wine will always be our passion, we understand that sometimes people just want a little West Coast.  We are grateful for the successes of our current wineries, allowing this purchase to happen.”, Mr. Pearmund continued, “There is a place for California wine in Virginia.  We look forward to sharing these products with our friends.”

A spokesperson for Pearmund Cellars confirmed that discussions between Pearmund and partners to a acquire Italian, French and Argentine products are being considered, as well as unnamed premium Rum brands, premium chocolate, and a line of cheeses.
