Some up to the date information and fun facts and photos from Pearmund Cellars.
Rack and Return.
Last week, some big things happened in the barrel room. The 2021 reds were taken out of their barrels and evaluated by the wine team. Some will be varietal wine. Some will go into blends, and the special ones….those will be reserves. Attention to detail, being true to procedures and talent. That is a blend that works-no matter the wine or vintage. ... So many great wines to choose from! Always our favorite winery to bring out of town guests.
We are in Veraison.
This is towards the end of the cycle for the vines. On the vines, the exposed fruit is ripening, changing color and growth begins to accelerate. The grapes become softer and the Brix level (sugar content) increases.
The challenging part is when to harvest, as the grapes will ripen unevenly, not only vine to vine, but berry to berry. So, when you run into a vineyard worker this or next month—buy them a beer. They've earned it. ... See MoreSee Less
They should be wearing super hero costumes with medals adorned! 😉

Viognier...Chardonnay on a tropical vacation.
A staple in Virginia wine, Viognier is often floral with characteristics of summer fruits like peach and apricot. The wine team here like to accentuate those features using special Acacia barrels, brought in specifically for this magnificent varietal.
Our 2019 vintage is a classic. Double Gold winner out west, be sure to try some on your next visit. ... See MoreSee Less
