For the 48th year in a row, the States oldest Vineyard has its buds breaking. Right about on schedule. The magic never gets old.
Yes, we now have Beer and Pizza among other enhancements, but when the buds come out we are reminded why we do what we do.🍷

What a great day we had with the local Alumni chapter of Miami of Ohio University#. Lunch from The District Pit and alum Roger Sherman. Barrel tasting and tour led by Beryl and an all around great afternoon. Thanks for letting us be RedHawks for the day

Happy Birthday Thomas Jefferson!!
Among other things, Teej (as he was known to friends) was President, wrote the Declaration of Independence, established West Point and of course, was a pioneer in bringing wine to Virginia. Fascinated by what was being done in France, Jefferson tried (unsuccessfully at first) to bring Viticulture to the US. Today, when you open that bottle of Cab Franc or Viognier, give a toast to TJ and all he did for Virginia Wine.

Effie is Home safe at Pearmund!!!!
It turns out the Pignappers weren’t bad guys at all. They just wanted to give Effie some time at our sister property, EffingHAM Manor to play with other pigs. Upon returning, Effie said:
“While Pearmund is my home, Effingham Manor Winery is beautiful. If you haven’t been there, you should try it. The wines are great, the history is fascinating, and the staff in incredible. In fact, they took me over to Vint Hill Craft Winery, where I learned about the Cold War, had unique wines and was treated high on the hog by their great people! Visiting both of the other wineries made me as happy as a pig in S#!+.”
As for the Pignapping, it was an inJEANous plan that was hatched, and FRANKly it caught us off guard. Next time you want to give Effie a thrill, just ask!! Thanks to all who followed along.

The Pignappers have made contact by sending us proof that they have her--we just can't pinpoint where. After a long journey, they assure us she is in a secure location. Her safety is cause for CELEBRATION and we TANNAT wait to get her back after we pay the KING'S RANSOM. For now, we are glad she seems so happy!

The time has come for me.
After 35 years of Honorable And Fastidious Dedication to the world of Virginia Wine, I have decided to retire.
We will be moving back to England to manage the family estate. However, our wine show will go on. I plan to give Pearmund Cellars to a worthy person.
In the next wine club shipment, one bottle will have a gold cork. Inside that bottle will be a certificate for the deed to the business and property of Pearmund Cellars

In Airborne jump school training this week with the crew of 'Band of Brothers ' as part of the filming of a documentary 'Currahee to Normandy ' .
Following in the footsteps of the first Airborne Battalion is an amazing honor. Making 5 jumps from this C-47 which flew in D-Day nearly 80 years ago in the same uniform, equipment and parashoot staying in the same barracks is surreal.
Amazing Chris. Thank you for sharing your wonderful wine with all of us! And to jump with you this week. Airborne

It’s gonna get cold tonight. maybe too cold.
In 1988 a week before budbreak a hard cold hit at 22 degrees. Lost 2,000 vines in the low areas, and a greatly reduced chardonnay crop overall. Higher elevation was OK. I learned there in only one thing to do. Drink beer. It’s in the fridge at the ready just in case.

Our new friends, John and Cathy visited us from North Carolina (via New Hampshire) yesterday...and we talked shop.
John has been making wine on the East Coast for 30 years (and secretly lamented he can't get Petit Verdot like in Virginia 😉). Great people, great talents and a real reminder of how ours is an industry of love and respect. Looking forward to seeing you down south soon!!
