2010 Cabernet Franc!!

Sampling our past is something we like to do on occasion--but this one was gone, until Shelley and Greg came to the rescue!!

Still an outstanding and evolving wine from an outstanding vintage, the deep fruit and almost leather qualities in the wine help prove Bristish Historian Arnold Toynbee's claim that "History is Gods creation on the move"

Look who's come back.

For the 48th year in a row, the States oldest Vineyard has its buds breaking. Right about on schedule. The magic never gets old.

Yes, we now have Beer and Pizza among other enhancements, but when the buds come out we are reminded why we do what we do.🍷

Happy Birthday Thomas Jefferson!!

Among other things, Teej (as he was known to friends) was President, wrote the Declaration of Independence, established West Point and of course, was a pioneer in bringing wine to Virginia. Fascinated by what was being done in France, Jefferson tried (unsuccessfully at first) to bring Viticulture to the US. Today, when you open that bottle of Cab Franc or Viognier, give a toast to TJ and all he did for Virginia Wine.

I see the light

Yes I hear a cafe in Winchester is going to send them to South America for their eclipse

Has this at me daughters house a while back and loved it!

I really like this wine!! <3

That’s so good!!

Effie is Home safe at Pearmund!!!!

It turns out the Pignappers weren’t bad guys at all. They just wanted to give Effie some time at our sister property, EffingHAM Manor to play with other pigs. Upon returning, Effie said:

“While Pearmund is my home, Effingham Manor Winery is beautiful. If you haven’t been there, you should try it. The wines are great, the history is fascinating, and the staff in incredible. In fact, they took me over to Vint Hill Craft Winery, where I learned about the Cold War, had unique wines and was treated high on the hog by their great people! Visiting both of the other wineries made me as happy as a pig in S#!+.”

As for the Pignapping, it was an inJEANous plan that was hatched, and FRANKly it caught us off guard. Next time you want to give Effie a thrill, just ask!! Thanks to all who followed along.

I thought Effingham Manor Winery was a great place for a pig to reside!

That is some mighty pig news!!! I’m sure Effie had a great adventure - as all three properties are wonderful places for swine enthusiasts 😊 cheers to Effie’s safe return and to the pignappers 💕

Woohoo! Sounds like you had quite the Pig-awesomness adventure!

That’s what sisters do; mess with each other. Love it! Glad Effie is back home.

She went Hog Wild 😝

Too funny!

Love it!

Me too!

I’m thinking the Porcine Precurement Program at Effingham has been suspended for the time being.

Evidence that Effie is OK!!

The Pignappers have made contact by sending us proof that they have her--we just can't pinpoint where. After a long journey, they assure us she is in a secure location. Her safety is cause for CELEBRATION and we TANNAT wait to get her back after we pay the KING'S RANSOM. For now, we are glad she seems so happy!

I saw a post on the Vint Hill Craft Winery page, it looks like she was over there! Not pointing any fingers at anyone..😉😇👉

Looks like she is visiting Effingham…

She is in my happy place and now she's queen of " Effing-Thing"

So glad she is safe!

Looks like Effie hit the jackpot! Her pignappers are taking very good care of her 💕

Looks like Effie is at Home Sweet Effing Home!!!

Can we get that guy from Taken to rescue her? 😂

She needs to hold up today's copy of the paper just to make sure. Lol

Definitely Effingham!

Looks like Effingham Manor for sure.

I know a couple of those fish. It only I could recall from where…..

Effie gets around!

She looks just swine. 😉

Where's Effie?!

Where's Stanley?

Isn’t it obvious!

Sure looks like an inside job to me!

That frys my bacon 🥓

Definitely an inside job.

If y’all decide to take your show on the road - I’ll be the first to buy tickets 😂

Inside job for sure!

Yep.. inside job for sure

Do you have any wine pairing suggestions?

The one on the left could be CP… but where could he be taking such a unique pig?

slow it down so you have time to see them

Inside job

Just please don't scrapple her. And I like scrapple.

Hmmmmm? Who could it be? Definitely an inside job!!

Anne Shingler 😆😆

Lawrence Nichols, I’m sorry I dropped a sausage link (dime) on you, after seeing this, I’m still not sure you aren’t one of the culprits. Please son, for the love of bacon, if it’s you, turn yourself in… 🐷🐖

Definitely an inside job "Chris Pearmund"

Chris Pearmund, I see you! 👀

Yesterday was fun...and if you haven't figured it out, we were playing April Fools. Chris isn't going anywhere. However, someone didn't like the prank....

Our beloved 'Mascot', Effie the Ceramic Pig is missing. A gift from the 4-H club, Effie welcomes people to our lawn. She has been PIGNAPPED, and replaced with a smaller, less elegant replica. Anyone with any ideas where Effie may be can comment below, or email us at WheresEffie@PearmundCellars.com. All clues leading to her return will be rewarded with a $5 coupon good at Pearmund Cellars, Effingham Manor or Vint Hill Craft Winery.

Wait, the thieves left a replica? 🤣😭 I need to see it!

You might wanna check the ham 😉

C’mon someone must know the thief and should squeal on them…

I think you should March right over to Effingham it appears that Effie was replaced by their purple pig. Maybe they can give you some insight on the thievery LOL

It didn't fly way

I saw him at Dulles heading to San Diego

The pig is only worth $5? Doesn't seem that Effie is treasured or appreciated. Surely, she is worth at least a bottle of Old Vine Chardonnay or Cab Franc Reserve.

OOOOHHH NOOOOOO ! 😱😱🌺 Say…. Is she named for Effee's Frozen Favorites?!? Different spelling of course but it could be a Black Raspberry freak! Not pointing fingers…. 😘 Actually this sounds like an inside job to me!?! Have you checked over at Effingham?🍷❣️🍷

The time has come for me.

After 35 years of Honorable And Fastidious Dedication to the world of Virginia Wine, I have decided to retire.

We will be moving back to England to manage the family estate. However, our wine show will go on. I plan to give Pearmund Cellars to a worthy person.

In the next wine club shipment, one bottle will have a gold cork. Inside that bottle will be a certificate for the deed to the business and property of Pearmund Cellars

To be included in the ‘Gold Cork Lottery’, join the wine club, or just to find out more, please visit:
www.pearmundcellars.com/chris-pearmund-retiring/

We have created a gold standard. And now passing on a gold cork.

April fools! lol! At least on the giving of the winery I’m sure! Congrats on your retirement!

Looking good Chris. So happy for your retirement. I love being retired. Everything is much more simple. Best of everything in your life.

As a friend as you have been and the many childlike stunts we’ve committed over the years I almost fell for it until I realized it was April Fools and as generous as you are, that property is near and dear to you.

Happy April Fools Day!

Ummm yeah….no! Lol glad I remembered what day it is!

This could be the best April fools joke, yet!

Congratulations, Chris Pearmund!! Very happy for you! Great memories from wine tasting! Best wishes on your next chapter!

I'm such a fool! I was gasping as I was reading this.

So very happy for you, Chris! We treasure our memories made while living in the area and the awesome wine cruise through France! Forever one of our favs!

Fabulous!!! If it only it would come true! Good share🍷 Hope all is well. I have some French people coming to DC in April from 23-26th. Once my schedule is set can see if time to visit. Keep fingers crossed for me, could be good my golden cork if the wines are well received🤞. Cheers!

Wishing you and the family all the best Chris! I don’t see you slowing down any so excited to see what you’re up to in your next chapter of life! Cheers 🥂!

Aprils Fools! 😂 love this though. Chris Pearmund, the next Willy Wonka for sure! Miss you my friend, hope all is well!

Any old grapegrowers remember spring in 1988?
It’s gonna get cold tonight. maybe too cold.
In 1988 a week before budbreak a hard cold hit at 22 degrees. Lost 2,000 vines in the low areas, and a greatly reduced chardonnay crop overall. Higher elevation was OK. I learned there in only one thing to do. Drink beer. It’s in the fridge at the ready just in case.

Our new friends, John and Cathy visited us from North Carolina (via New Hampshire) yesterday...and we talked shop.

John has been making wine on the East Coast for 30 years (and secretly lamented he can't get Petit Verdot like in Virginia 😉). Great people, great talents and a real reminder of how ours is an industry of love and respect. Looking forward to seeing you down south soon!!
