Winery at La Grange Set to Open in Haymarket, VA - New Virginia Winery Will Set State and National Records - Haymarket, VA, August 25, 2006. The Winery at La Grange will open to the public for Labor Day Weekend, offering eclectic wines, some of which have already won regional competitions, and "A Taste of History" reaching back to the late 1700s. Chris Pearmund, award-winning Virginia winemaker, consultant, and owner of Pearmund Cellars in Broad Run, VA spearheaded the transformation of the abandoned 20-acre property into the Winery at La Grange. The overgrown historic and culturally significant property had become an "eye-sore", but Pearmund and his investor partners knew there was a pearl to be found beneath the debris. The Winery at La Grange will emerge as a destination winery that preserves the history and character of the property while providing an upscale business as the closest drive-time winery to the metropolitan Washington, DC region. The three and a half story, circa 1790 manor house needed a "transfusion more than a renovation," according to Fletcher Henderson, the winery's on-site manager, who has crafted period tasting rooms, numerous parlor rooms, and outdoor patio areas complete with open-flame gas lights and property-wide Wi-Fi service. The Winery at La Grange is tucked away in a remote setting just 3 miles from historic Haymarket, Va where I-66 and Routes 55 and 15 intersect. The manor house has a commanding panoramic view of the Virginia Piedmont, and visitors who want to learn about wine making can meander under a canopy of 50 year old American boxwoods from the Manor House to a new state-of-the-art 7,000 case production winery building. "This winery has been in the making for over 2 centuries" says Chris Pearmund. "No other winery that I know of has gone from ‘raw land to a planted vineyard, a winery building, and restored historical buildings in 8 months. It usually takes about 2 years to get from ground breaking to a fully-operational winery. What we have done here at La Grange is record setting at the state and national levels." The Winery at La Grange opening would not have been possible without support from local government officials, the Chamber of Commerce, and avid regional supporters. "This accomplishment draws significant visibility and positive attention to Prince William County as being business friendly and proactive for the good of all its citizens" says Pearmund. "We are committed to the County's success as much as to our own." ABOUT the WINERY AT LA GRANGE The
