Our Process |

In
the Vineyard: As you know, Pearmund Cellars trades and
buys grapes from other Virginia vineyards. However, each year we also
plant more grapes to increase our production and/or replace vines which
have been harmed by weather conditions. Chris is now making plans to
add more Chardonnay and
Cabernet Sauvignon vines at Pearmund Cellars and the Winery at La
Grange. This is a serious undertaking because those little vines are
expensive. There are many strains and suppliers from which Chris can
choose, and they must be ordered to
arrive healthy when the weather is perfect for planting!![]() In the Winery: To share the good news about the quality of Virginia wines, our winemakers periodically send wines to regional, national, and international competitions. Recently, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition informed us that we received a Silver medal for our 2005 Ameritage Reserve. Stop by the winery to judge whether this fine wine meets your sophisticated tastes! |

Our People |

Mark Parsons,
our Director of
Hospitality and Education, will
be leaving us this week. He has accepted a position
as General Manager at Cross Keys Vineyards
near
Harrisonburg, Virginia. Before assuming his new role in March,
Mark
will travel back to South Africa to reunite with his
friends and colleagues in the Cape Winelands as well as spend some time
in the
hot African sun. Mark wanted to say that he is grateful for the opportunity to have served the patrons and customers of Pearmund Cellars. He is honored to have shared this work with valued colleagues George, Sue, DJ, Dickey, and Carmello, and was happy to have a few days with Christopher Day, who will assume the bulk of his role at Pearmund Cellars. All of us would like to thank Mark for his valued service and wish him well in his new challenge! |

Our Partners & Retailers |

Partner: Loaded with outings and
events for local
day-trippers, Celebrating
Virginia doesn’t sit on a coffee table. Rather, this little
gem is
the perfect resource for deciding what to do on your days off.
Published monthly by Carl Henrickson, the free magazine
showcases culture, heritage, people, towns, real estate, arts,
entertainment, events, and little-known tidbits of interest to folks
who love and celebrate Virginia. Download their Winery Hopping and
other guides from the Free Download
page or pick up the magazine at hundreds of retail
merchant locations throughout Northen Virginia (and beyond). Wine
Store: Kay
and Wayne Brooks opened Grapes
of Taste in July of 2007. They run their Ladysmith,
Virginia, shop like Kay did the local library system: learning the
likes and dislikes of clientele then stocking popular requests. Voted
“Best New Business in 2007” by readers of the local newspaper, the shop
carries fine wines, cheeses, deli meats, specialty beers, accessories,
cigars, and gifts. Ask about their growing collection of Virginia wines. Restaurant: With
an impressive list
of awards, the Angus Barn in Raleigh, North
Carolina, is best known for their Wine Cellar Dining Room, with
host-selected multi-course menus, an impressive array of wines, and one
server for every five guests. However, the Barn also boasts a
fine-dining restaurant with a casual atmosphere, a
lounge with a light menu and full bar, banquet
facilities that accommodate up to 220 guests, and a country store with
signature foods and gifts. Operated by the Eure family since 1960, the
restaurant is now run by Van, who continues to support the Foundation
of Hope, a non-profit organization her parents started for research
and treatment of mental illness. Inn: 50 miles west of Washington
D.C., but a world away
from traffic, noise, and worry, the Middle Grove
Inn helps people renew
their mind, body, and spirit. Besides enjoying the scenic countryside,
guests can tour local wineries, visit charming shops, eat in gourmet
restaurants, find unique antiques, rise in a balloon, take invigorating
hikes, ride horseback, or bike the W & OD trail. Bob and Vicki
Moore's brand of Southern hospitality encourages people to return with
friends to repeat their experience. Bring a bottle of Pearmund to relax
by the pool, enjoy the jacuzzi, or just sit in the gazebo and
experience the quietness of the evening. |
