Pearmund
Cellars has earned numerous awards for grape growing, wine making, and
package design. We are especially proud of our first award: Best in
Show for Label Design at the 2003 State Fair of Virginia. We created
this label to emphasize our primary
mission: producing top-quality,
hand-crafted Virginia wines. As shown on our new Kudos page, we have won many other awards including: Best Dessert Wine at the 2005 Wines of the South Competition for our 2003 Late Harvest Vidal and Best Riesling at the 2006 Atlantic Seaboard for our 2005 vintage. Stop by the winery for more information and, more importantly, judge whether our fine wines meet your sophisticated tastes. We offer several great ways to enjoy our fine wines and your summer vacation: Winery
Anniversary: From June 30th to July 8th, join us
as we celebrate the 4th anniversary of our
grand opening.
Taste our classic wines and receive a free commemorative
glass while they last. Plus, sample Chocolaterie
Wanders pate
de fruit made from
our fine wines. Independence Day: On July 4th, help us honor our nation's 231st birthday. Take a tasting tour; enjoy our barbecued chicken, hotdogs, burgers, and corn on the cob; then relax while watching the children enjoy sparklers and lawn games. Tasting and barbeque fees will be exchanged for donations to our nation's oldest ecological foundation: the Rachel Carson Council. We will also be releasing our 2006 Viognier, which was 100% barrel-fermented and aged for eight months in 2nd and 3rd year French oak. Every
Dog Has Its
Day: Redmund
wants to make sure that all wine dogs are
coming to bask
in the sun, frolic between the vines, and chase frisbees on July
14th and 15th. Their owners and friends can come taste
his new wine, Redmund's Reserve Red, which honors a wine dog's
love of life. However, they must be well mannered, play nicely with
others, and clean up after themselves.
Redmund will greet everyone, pose for
pictures with his favorite artist, Linda
Hendrickson, and ask for donations to the SPCA. Splendor in the Vines Dinner: On July 28th, enjoy a gourmet meal that celebrates summer evenings outdoors. Bring your loved ones to enjoy fabulous wine, imaginative cuisine, and the romantic atmosphere of our vineyard. Clifton's Wine Festival: Join Pearmund Cellars, the Winery at La Grange, and other local wineries to enjoy fine wines and camaraderie in Historic Clifton, Virginia, on August 11th. Contact the festival organizers for more information. |

In the Winery:
Our phones have been ringing
as more and more customers discover the romance of our wedding or anniversary
package. Stacey Sexton's Planning
Guide can help create elegant, unusual, and intimate receptions for
almost any
budget, but you need to
reserve your special date as soon as possible for 2007 celebrations. In the Vineyard: When Rick Tagg is not making fine wines, he is in our beautiful organic garden. By eliminating synthetic pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and fertilizers, he relies on careful stewardship for long-term yields. Ask him how to study soil strengths and weaknesses before adding rich organic nutrients to promote top-quality products and fastest growth. |

Pearmund
Cellars welcomes Mark Parsons as our
Director of Education and Hospitality. In this role, Mark will
oversee the total experience and integrity of our tastings, tours,
catered dinners, educational outreach, and corporate involvement. He is
committed to focusing Pearmund Cellars as a brand, insuring that
Chris’ vision is integrated, and promoting the winery as a leader in
excellence for the Virginia wine experience. Mark's background in
organization development and corporate consulting will help us forge
stronger, strategic relationships with
regional partners in the food and wine industry and signifigantly
enhance our cooperative
initiatives with inns, spas, and sporting concerns.A seasoned educator in the arts and humanities, Mark brings expertise from his work with the famed Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley and the Spier Estate, a center for wine, the arts, and nature in the Cape Winelands of South Africa. With the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads, he recently oversaw a major event for NATO-ACT and the City of Norfolk: during the International Azalea Festival, he coordinated honors for the British Ambassador, Sir David Manning, in attending the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown Settlement. While planning this event, Mark was fortunate to meet Chris and Lisa. After sharing his increasing excitement for the Virginia wine experience, Mark is now pleased to bring more innovation and continued excellence to Pearmund Cellars. |

Our Industry |

Juanita Swedenburg
died at her home in Middleburg, Virginia, on June 9. Internationally known for winning a 2005
Virginia-to-New-York shipping case in the Supreme Court, she
always felt that, "the Constitution is not just a piece of paper. We
should use it. There's such a thing as freedom of commerce." Largely
due to her persistence with her lawyer Clint Bolick, the Wine
Institute can show significant progress in their Free the Grapes
campaign. Juanita was a member of the Virginia Wineries Association and a founding member of the Vinifera Wine Growers Association. She was the Virginia Wineries Association Person of the Year in 2006 and received the Vinifera Wine Growers Association Lifetime Achievement Award (see photo). In memorium, the Juanita Swedenburg Memorial Education Fund was established to promote the Virginia wine industry. Contributions can be made to this fund via the Virginia Wine Growers Association (VWGA), P.O. Box 10045, Alexandria, VA 22310. Another way to support the Virginia wine industry is by ordering a Virginia: First in Wine license plate before July 1st. This is very easy -- just use this form today! Last, while raising your glass to the local
wine industry, please click on the icon at the right and help us keep
Pearmund Cellars' lead in the People’s
Choice Poll. Since you can vote daily until August 15th, you
might also like to show your appreciation for
our sister Winery
at LaGrange. It would be great to have the two top spots. |
