Our Process |

In
the Vineyard:
The vines broke dormancy April 24th after a scary Easter cold snap. Our
vineyard suffered no damage, but some of our more southern
wine-growing
friends may have lost up to 75% of their harvest. That's a
reminder to us that we are first and foremost farmers, subject to
the
whims
of nature. We are still waiting for our purple martins and hummingbirds to return from their winter retreats. However, our colorful goldfinches, flickers, blue birds, and hawks are entertaining staff and guests as we bask in long-awaited warm weather on the porch. Our beehives are also flourishing. As more wild flowers bloom, we are looking forward to an abundant honey harvest. In the Winery: Chris relates that he has been fielding requests for personalized wine labels since he opened the winery. It's now easy to handle these requests at a reasonable cost! Call or stop by the winery and have your favorite Pearmund Cellars wines imprinted with a personalized message. It’s a perfect way to turn a special occasion into a memory that will last forever. |

Our People |

Our
webmaster, Mary Anne Wassenberg, along with her husband, Mike,
and barrel owners Walter
Rachele and Pat Valas just returned from the 43e
Congrès Mondial de la Fédération Internationale
des Confréries Bachiques in Switzerland. For the Wines
of the World tasting, they poured wines from both Pearmund Cellars and
the Winery at La Grange. The wines were well received and, like
last year, were featured in European newspapers. As they returned, our winemaker, Chris Pearmund, along with his wife, Lisa, and barrel owners Bob and Candace Moe, left for the Virginia Wine Experience in London. They will be pouring our wines too. Watch for details in our next newsletter! Now that we are getting more national and international attention, we need help from some of you who enjoy our wines and wish to participate in our success. Becoming a winery volunteer is interesting and fun, plus you even get paid! If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity or know others who may be interested, please Namely, we need:

wide choice of premium offerings, so there is something for every wine
lover. Their quantity purchases are always
discounted, plus special orders are encouraged and welcomed. On
May 11th, Michael and Marie Janow invite you to taste
wines from Pearmund Cellars. Restaurant:
Kirkpatrick Harris worked on Capitol Hill as a registered lobbyist for
the hospitality industry, then decided to strike out on his own to open
a “hospitality center” in which he would like to
spend his leisure hours. Because of his Irish roots, Harris trained in
pub management with the Guinness in Dublin before coming home to open
two pubs built by fourth-generation Irish craftsmen.
Located in Ashburn Village and Dominion Valley, Kirkpatrick’s Irish Pub, Sports
Bar, and Family Grille is the place to relax with friends after
playing football, softball, hockey, or the game of your choice.
Pearmund Cellars wines and Guinness beers are the favorite beverages to
pair with its tasty pub fare. Inn:
Located in the quiet village of Paris,
Virginia (population 49), the Ashby Inn was built about 1829
by Manley Pierce. Noted Generals Joseph E. Johnston and Stonewall
Jackson
rested there on their way to the First Battle of Manassas. The inn's
guest rooms are furnished with 19th-century pieces: four-poster beds,
hand-painted wardrobes, quilts, and blanket chests. Their views include
both long manicured lawns lined with beautiful perennial flower beds
and peaceful cattle grazing on slopes of the Blue Ridge. Jackie and
Charles Leopold invite you to stay at their perfect country inn, plan a
reception at their location, or eat in their cozy, yet sophisticated,
restaurant overseen by Chef Brian Pellatt. They are pleased to offer
Pearmund Cellars and other Virginia wines in their extensive wine list. |

Our Industry |

Promoters of the Virginia Wine
Festival are conducting a People’s
Choice Poll to honor Virginia's favorite winery. Pearmund
Cellars would love to boast about the loyalty of our customers by
hanging their “really big plaque” in our tasting room. If you haven't
already voted, please do so now. If you have voted, please invite your
friends, colleagues, and relatives to enjoy the hospitality at our
vineyard and winery, then ask them to vote too. As they say
in politics,
vote early, vote often, and let us know who you really
love!
Another way to show your loyalty to Virginia wineries is by ordering your Virginia: First in Wine license plate before July 1st. For more information, scroll to the bottom of our last newsletter or use this form to order your license plate today! Last, how many different grape varieties
have you
tasted? The Wine Century Club was created two years ago to
encourage wine lovers to explore the diverse array of wines around the
globe. The sole criterion for membership is to have tasted more than
100 grape varieties. The club's online application
features a checklist of 185 varieties. For more information, check out
the recent Washington
Post article. |
