"May friendship, like wine, improve as time advances.
And may we always have old wine, old friends, and young cares."

Our Products

As we begin picking and processing our 2006 grapes, we offer our Harvest Three-Pack (2003 Ameritage, 2004 Cabernet Franc, 2005 Viognier) or Dessert Three-Pack (2004 Late Harvest Vidal) for $40. All of these wines are great buys and pair well with your favorite surf, turf, and pie.

If you were cunning enough to invest in 2005 futures during our barrel-tasting weekends, congratulations! Your investment has reached maturity.  Please stop by Pearmund Cellars to pick up your  purchase. Call 540-347-3475 if you have any questions or would like your wine pre-packaged.

Our Process

Although we don't tromp through vats of wine barefoot as seen in episodes of “I Love Lucy,” if you stop by the winery this fall, you will see us scrambling around the crush pad processing grapes for our 2006 vintage of award-winning Pearmund Cellars wines. Our production volume is simply too great for stomping so we use our forklift, destemmer, bladder press, and a whole lot of muscle to get the crush underway. Besides, our Assistant Tasting Room Manager, Nilou Miller, informs us that purple feet are “out” for the fall fashion season.

Most of you know that Meriwether Vineyard, the farm surrounding Pearmund Cellars, supplies our Chardonnay grapes, but many of you may be curious about where our other grapes are grown. We are very fortunate to work with several excellent Virginia vineyard owners who supply our Riesling, Viognier, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. To honor the hard work of our vignerons, who toil throughout the year to produce high-quality fruit, Pearmund Cellars is initiating vineyard-designated labeling for future vintages. The next time you enjoy a bottle of our fine wines, remember to toast the wine grower as well as the wine maker!

Our People

Nilou Miller has switched from working weekdays to working weekends.  That's because she is going back to college for her nursing degree. We wish her well and are currently hiring someone to take over her weekday tasks as well as create synergy between Pearmund Cellars and the Winery at La Grange.

Our Tasting Room Managers, Kristin Heydt and Melissa Stephan, say that we need additional part-time staff: fun-loving adults with a passion for wine who can work a minimum of two weekend days. Call Pearmund Cellars at 540-347-3475 or the Winery at La Grange at 703-753-9360 to set up an interview appointment.

Our Industry

On September 11th, a 2-1 ruling by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court's ruling that two provisions of Virginia's Alcoholic Beverage Control Act had unconstitutionally impeded interstate commerce. As a result, laws allowing only Virginia wine to be sold in state-run liquor stores and restricting the amount of booze consumers can bring into the state for their personal consumption are now constitutional.

In the majority opinion, Judge Paul V. Niemeyer stated that a "market participant" exception to the U.S. Constitution's commerce clause allows Virginia's ABC stores to sell only wine produced in the state. He wrote "Virginia's choice of selling only Virginia wine is no more inappropriate than would be its choice to sell only Hershey's brand chocolate bars at a State commissary."  For more information, see the Daily Press and Free Lance Star articles. The changes have major implications for small farm wineries which are too small to interest a distributor.
