Our Products |

| Entry forms are
filling up the mailbox, and fine wines
from our 2003, 2004 and 2005 vintages are being entered into the
region's most prestegious competitions. Look for Pearmund
Cellars and
the Winery at La Grange on rosters for the Atlantic Seaboard
Wine Competition,Virginia State Fair, Wines of
the South, Best of the Best from Virginia, etc. We'll keep you
updated as
to our current standings, but our customers are always our best
critics so please come to our tasting room and judge for
yourself! If you are looking for fine wines to complement your favorite barbeque or patio party, take home our Summer Relaxation Three-Pack (2003 Cabernet Franc, 2004 Viognier, and 2003 Ameritage) for $39! Or, enjoy our Tropical Breezes Sale: 2004 Viognier for a case price of $100, or a bottle price of $10. It's clear that the best reason to visit Pearmund Cellars is the wine, but many customers say the second best reason is enjoying the beauty and majesty of the local wildlife. They say the best views are from our comfortable patio, under large shade trees during a family picnic by the creek, on a lesiurely walk through the vineyard, or even just driving down the gravel drive. Tasting room manager Kristin Heydt is calling all nature enthusiasts to contribute to the "Bird Life List" of Pearmund Cellars. So far, Rufus-Sided Tohee, Piliated Woodpecker, Eastern Spotted Salamander, Oven Bird, Brown Thrasher, Cattle Egret, Least Green Heron, and Ruby Throated Hummingbirds have been observed by Pearmund Cellars employees. We're pretty sure our customers have observed some pretty cool critters as well. Bring your binoculars and field guides the next time that you visit, and let us know all the new birds you see in our beautiful landscape! |

Our Process |
|||
| When you visit the
winery this month,
pay particular attention to our grapes, and note their color changing
from green to gold. That's an indication that the natural process of veraison,
or
sweetening of
the grapes, has begun. It also means that the 2006 harvest and crush
season is almost upon us. Chris,
Rick, and others are busy preparing our equipment and facilities
for
September and October. Our destemmer, press,
tractor, forklift, pump, compressor, barrels, hoses, bins, yeasts, and
cleaning supplies – all have to be ready to go. In addition, beekeeper Rick is happy to report that the White Sage hive has nearly filled the honey super. The Lavender Hillside hive is slower in production, but still cranking out plenty of sweetness. We look forward to a goodly honey harvest this fall. Our only concern is the "bitter honey locust tree" located in close proximity to the bee hive. Let's hope the bees had plenty of sweet clover and wildflower nectar to use and, therefore, shied away from the yucky tasting tree. |

| Interested
in part-time work in the exciting world of wine hospitality?
Looking for something different as a second career? The Winery at La Grange
needs people with a passion for wine and entertaining. Until the
opening of the new winery, call Pearmund Cellars at 540-347-3475 to
discuss possibilities and to set up an interview appointment. Working in the tasting room is both fun and challenging. Customers are always interested in sharing their impressions of the wines they taste and describing their experiences when drinking wine with friends and family. Rick was recently interviewed by the Word Nerds, a weekly podcast about words. Click on the Listen Now button in the middle of the Wine Words page to hear what Rick had to say. The podcast also has several interesting definitions of "wino" and other terms in wine lore. |

Our Industry |
|||
| Last month, the Virginia
Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) sent Circular
Letter 06-02 to Virginia's
110 wineries informing them that they will no longer be permitted to
self-distribute their products to local restaurants, wine shops,
grocery stores, etc. For a discussion of how this has impacted Virginia
establishments, see the Richmond
Times Dispatch. Hopefully, this restriction will be re-evaluated in
2007. In the meantime, Pearmund Cellars has chosen Southern Oceans Trading
Systems of Manassas, Virginia, as its ABC-licensed distributor
for local wholesale accounts. Retailers may contact the winery at
540-347-3475 for pricing and other details. |
