News for May 2006

"I rejoice as a moralist at the prospect of a reduction of the duties on wine by our national legislature....
Its extended use will carry health and comfort to a much enlarged circle."

-- Thomas Jefferson

Our Products

The month of May is your last chance to purchase our Springtime Romance Three-Pack: 2003 Cabernet Franc, 2004 Viognier, and 2003 Ameritage for a bargain price of $39!  However, if only exotic, tropical aromas and flirty, fabulous fruit pique your interest, come indulge your senses at our 2004 Viognier sale! Our case price is $135, and our three-bottle price is $39.

You can also enjoy these Pearmund Cellars wines paired with food at the winery:
  • Summertime Winemaker's Dinner:  On Saturday, June 3rd, be our guest for an evening of fabulous wine, imaginative cuisine, a romantic atmosphere, and a special summer-themed winemakers’ dinner catered by Legends Catering.
  • Fathers Day Barbeque:  On June 17th and 18th, bring your dad to Pearmund Cellars for a day of casual fun and relaxation.  Since our fundraising campaign for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation is ongoing, donations to Save the Bay will be accepted instead of tasting fees. In addition, delicious grilled items and outdoor activities (e.g., whiffle ball, frisbee) will be available in exchange for Save the Bay donations.  There will be lots of lawn chairs set up for your dad to kick back and relax while enjoying a burger, a dog, some corn on the cob, and, of course, some fabulous Pearmund Cellars wine.

Our Process

What an exciting time at the winery! The grapes are starting to flower, and the canes are growing at a rate of about one inch a day. The hummingbirds have returned from Central America, the bird feeder on the patio is the busiest restaurant in town, and summer is visible on the horizon! Come to the winery and bask in the splendor! Bring your family and friends to enjoy a tasting tour followed by a gourmet picnic -- call the winery at (540) 347-3475 if you would like us to arrange catering.

Our People

Jack Handy said, "Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Chris, Kristin, Nilou, Rick, and the rest of our staff at Pearmund Cellars want you to treat your liver and heart well by drinking Virginia's fine wines in moderation, but we would also love to have you share our hopes and dreams by contemplating the fabulous views from our patio and picnic area.

Our Partners & Retailers

Partner:  Providing premier limousine services for one to 55 passengers, Chariots For Hire ensures that every guest arrives relaxed and ready to enjoy their personal or corporate event. When headed to a birthday party, anniversary celebration, bridal shower, bachelor party, prom, rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, concert, play, winery tour, board meeting, or local airport, Pearmund Cellars clients can count on Chariots For Hire's experienced uniformed chauffeurs to handle all the logistics and let them cruise in total luxury.

Wine Store:  At Arrowine, their goal is to offer the world's best wines at the metropolitan area's best prices. The staff prides itself in knowing their customers and providing a range of services designed to select perfect wines and gourmet treats for every occasion. With more than 2500 wines, gourmet cheeses, meats, coffee, accessories, gift certificates, tastings, reviews, and literature, there is no reason not to indulge in the Arrowine shopping experience. We suggest buying some of their unique cheeses and comparing Pearmund Cellars Riesling with one of their excellent German Rieslings.

Restaurant:  Set in a 19th century renovated grain mill, Tuscarora Mill has been pleasing diners in Loudoun County for two decades. Always a leader in dinning trends, the restaurant has won culinary awards, Wine Spectator magazine accolades, Washingtonian Top 100 awards, and favorite picks in over a dozen readers' polls. Unique individually-styled banquets and catering are also their specialty. Stop by for lunch, dinner, or a glass of Pearmund Cellars wine.

Inn:  For over two-and-a half centuries, the Red Fox Inn has maintained a commitment to providing good food, romantic accommodations, and efficient service. Fresh flowers, thick cotton bathrobes, bedside sweets, and the morning paper delivered to your room are some of the extras that make a visit at this 23-room country inn so special. On the national Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, the inn serves meals in seven old-world dining rooms and a modern pub. Other inn services include off-premise catering, wedding/corporate reception planning, fine-art sales, and on-premise sales of fine Virginia wines like Pearmund Cellars.

Our Industry

On May 16th, 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states can regulate wine shipments but cannot discriminate by treating out-of-state wine commerce (i.e., wineries and retailers) differently than in-state wine commerce. Business Wire has a good synopsis of direct shipping changes since the High Court ruling.

Recognized as the first state to distribute wine, Virginia will be celebrating Jamestown's 400th birthday with 18 months of festivities, 10 signature events, and 100s of community projects. The kickoff event will be the Godspeed sailing on May 27, 2006 in Alexandria, Virginia. Look for Virginia wine at several of the events.

To celebrate other events in Virginia's history, you may wish to follow the Journey Through Hallowed Ground Corridor on U.S. Route 15 (just east of Pearmund Cellars). The National Register of Historic Places has declared this 175-mile route to be an endangered historic site and is establishing a tri-state conservation program connecting Gettysburg's historic battlefield with Charlottesville's Monticello, the plantation built by Thomas Jefferson.
