News for April 2006

"We ought to do good to others as simply as a horse runs,
or a bee makes honey, or a vine bears grapes season after season
without thinking of the grapes it has borne."

Or, if only exotic, tropical aromas and flirty, fabulous fruit pique your interest, come indulge your senses at our 2004 Viognier sale! Our case price is $135, and our three-bottle price is $39. Other great suggestions to pamper your loved ones are:
  • 26th Annual Virginia Vintners Dinner:  The famed Trellis Restaurant will be featuring our 2003 Ameritage on the menu at their annual vintners' dinner on May 2, 2006. Call the restaurant for details and reservations: 757-229-8610. And, stay at a local bed and breakfast for the perfect weekend getaway.
  • Cinco de Mayo Winemaker's Dinner:  On May 6th (not 5th), our winemaker's dinner will feature menu selections that mirror the battle between the French and Spanish forces over control of Mexico.  Both factions were defeated at the Battle of Puebla by the Mexican militias. Our dinner commemorates the foods of both France and Spain with a Mexican twist. Email us or call 540-347-3475 for details and reservations. If you cannot join us, watch for our next dinner on June 3rd.
  • Thank Goodness for Mothers:  On May 13th and 14th, bring your mother by the winery for a real treat. She’ll love our light and cheerful Late Harvest Vidal Sparkler, featuring our 2003 Late Harvest Vidal, mango nectar, and sparkling wine. Pearmund Cellars will also be honoring Mother Earth, as we are kicking off our fundraising campaign for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Donations to Save the Bay will be accepted instead of tasting fees.
  • Fathers Day Barbeque:  On June 17th and 18th, bring your dad to Pearmund Cellars for a day of casual fun and relaxation.  Our fundraising campaign for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will continue. Donations to Save the Bay will be accepted instead of tasting fees. In addition, delicious grilled items and outdoor activities (e.g., whiffle ball, frisbee) will be available in exchange for Save the Bay.  There will be lots of lawn chairs set up for your dad to kick back and relax while enjoying a burger, a dog, some corn on the cob, and, of course, some fabulous Pearmund Cellars wine.

Our Process

Benvenuto a la Dolce Vita!! Last Thursday, as the sun was setting, and the evening was cooling, assistant winemaker Rick Tagg and organic gardener Karla Eisen built a new home for some buzzing friends at the south end of our vineyard. Italian Three-Banded bees are now happily residing in two luxurious bee villas:  Casa su Pendio di Lavanda (House on the Lavender Hillside) and Villa di Salvia Apiana (White Sage Mansion). The queen bees seem to be very pleased with their new homes, and we look forward to seeing their impact on the vineyard. Look for bee updates and pictures as the season progresses.  Can mead (honey wine) be very far behind?

Our People

Hospitality is Kristin Hickey-Heydt’s forte. Kristin joined Pearmund Cellars in July 2005 after discovering Chris’ handcrafted approach to winemaking. She has long been a Virginia wine aficionado, and her in-depth knowledge is communicated with an enthusiasm and sincerity that customers find irresistible. She is also responsible for the selection of gourmet foods, casual clothing, and fine art that is sold in our sun-filled tasting room.

Our Partners & Retailers

Partner:  The mission of the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce is to serve its membership by promoting responsible economic growth, a positive business climate, and an enhanced quality of life in Fauquier County and its trade area.  Their Visitors Guide provides information on Fauquier County events, attractions, lodgings, Civil War trails, conference centers, reception centers, restaurants, wineries, services, products, and travel information. To learn more about the Chamber and its work with businesses like Pearmund Cellars, contact them at 540-347-4414 or mailbox@fauquierchamber.org.

Wine Store:  The Opera House Gourmet is situated in what was originally the Conner Opera House of Manassas, Virginia. Built in 1906, the 600-seat auditorium was home to operettas, traveling shows, and locally-produced programs. Today, the building is filled with wines from Virginia and around the world as well as chocolates, gourmet coffees, teas, food items, and unique gifts. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff is ready to help and can create gift baskets for everyone on your list. Of course, you'll want to include a bottle of your favorite Pearmund Cellars wine.

Restaurant:  Located in Warrenton, Virginia, Legends has been delighting clients for more than 16 years. Their award-winning catering service is available throughout Northern Virginia for both large parties and intimate gatherings. See their website for sample menus, special services, party trays, facility descriptions, and comments from satisfied customers. Contact them for your special party at home, your office, our winery, or their location.

Inn:  Overlooking the Rappahannock River, with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Highland Farm has two guest suites and a stone cottage tastefully furnished with family antiques. The bed and breakfast offers a secluded quiet and romantic point from which to explore Virginia wine and hunt country, but we suggest starting with their 36-acre thoroughbred horse and cattle farm. Don't forget to purchase a bottle of Pearmund Cellars wine to enjoy by the fireplace or in the solarium.

Our Industry

The Vinifera Wine Growers Association recently announced that the 31st Annual Virginia Wine Festival will take place on Saturday, September 30th, and Sunday, October 1st at Morven Park Equestrian Center in Leesburg, Virginia.  The festival will launch Virginia Wine Month and be styled after a European market.

Also, Women & Wine recently launched a weekly one-hour radio show, broadcast at 2 p.m. PDT and re-broadcasting at 2 a.m. PDT on Voice America, the leading internet radio network. A cross between "Click & Clack" and the "Satellite Sisters," the show focuses on content from its online magazine, daily wine and dining tips from insiders, in-home tasting groups, a wine-and-book club, and luxury wine-country travel packages.
