| As the weather
warms, we at Pearmund Cellars are anxious to get outside and
enjoy all that spring has to offer: warbling birds, buzzing bees,
and
the promise of a great season. In honor of the season, we have put
together a Springtime Romance
three-pack. Stop by the winery to pick up this
bundle of ’03 Cabernet Franc, ’04
Viognier, and ’03 Ameritage for a
bargain price of $39! We also have plenty of delicious
Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Late Harvest Vidal, and
Vin de Sol to share with your friends and family As our Morrison Wood quote states above, cooking with wine is a great idea -- we would like to add that, besides chopping ingredients, a great sous chef can keep the chef's wine glass filled. With this in mind, remember that t

| You may have
missed the first two Viticulture
and Enology courses offered by Lord Fairfax
Community College (LFCC), but there is no reason you need to
miss the next two: Vineyard
Disease and Pest Control given at LFCC's Fauquier Campus on
April 12th and an Overview of
Winemaking and Equipment at Pearmund
Cellar on May 17ths. As indicated in LFCC's brochure,
students can register for these
courses to learn more about
vineyard management and winemaking! If you stop by the winery on weekdays in March, you will find us gearing up to bottle our Riesling and Viognier on April 6th. Many of our customers have been patiently waiting for this day as the precursor to our vintage release at the end of April. If you have questions about bottling, ask Chris or Rick, and check out the pictures on our website. In our vineyards, we are fine-tuning our tools and techniques to prevent common vineyard diseases and pests. If you are not able to attend LFCC's course on this subject, you may want to view Penn State's comprehensive website. |

Our People |

| Please welcome
Pearmund Cellars' new business manager:
Mary Ann Dancisin. Mary Ann fell in love with wine in
a cellar in Burgundy. After building her career in New York City at a
well-respected wine and spirits house, she moved to Virginia to
understand the roots of winemaking. “It all starts in the
vineyard,” Mary Ann says. As a Society of Wine
Educators Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW), she plans to
contribute both her business skills and in-depth knowledge of wine to
support the continuing success of Pearmund Cellars and the new Winery
at LaGrange. |

| Partner: Committed to
customers, communities, diversity, and employees, Borders
provides books, music, movies, and other entertainment items in a
relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere. Their mission
statement and positioning as a "place to indulge tastes and needs,
to explore and discover" fits well with our goals so we are helping
Borders celebrate the grand opening of their Winchester
store.
On March 17th, stop by their new store to review their extensive media
collection, purchase your favorites, listen to live music, and taste
Pearmund Cellars fine wines. Wine Store: Since 2001, Murphy's Beverage has been widely recognized as a promoter of the Virginia wine industry. They are also well-known for their support of micro-breweries and amateur beer-making. For more information about Murphy's Beverage, contact Joseph Murphy or Charlie Fish at 540-723-9719 or just stop by. Murphy's Beverage is located at 167 North Loudoun Street in Winchester, Virginia. Restaurant: Winchester's One Block West is an upscale, yet casual, fine dining restaurant that showcases the finest local and organic products from the Shenandoah Valley. Owner and chef Ed Matthews is proud to feature Virginia wines as well as sponsor monthly winemaker's dinners. Daily menus usually feature eight appetizers and eight entrées, half of which are seafood brought in fresh from Atlantic ports. Other entrées vary widely but often include beef, bison, pork, duck, lamb, or vegetarian options. Our recommendation: try your favorite Pearmund Cellars wine with selections from their Wednesday night tapas menu. Inn: Whether you are seeking formal garden receptions, outdoor adventure weekends, relaxed corporate retreats, or elegantly-served dinners in a historic manor house, the Marriott Ranch is a great place to enjoy renowned menu selections, exciting activities, and trained staff to please even the most discriminating guests. Catered picnics, afternoon teas, steak barbeques, golf outings, mystery dinners, cowboy shows, and jeep tours will remind you of the true meaning of country hospitality. A stay in their 10-room historic bed and breakfast and a wine tasting at Pearmund Cellars can be a perfect weekend or weekday getaway! |

Our Industry |

| Many thanks to
customers who wrote letters
to their delegates and senators regarding HB
1288 and HB 1435! We appreciate your support of Pearmund Cellars
and other Virginia farm wineries. Unfortunately, HB 1288 was tabled in a 4-1 vote by a Virginia House of Delegates subcommittee. Although the bill was supported by the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, the Virginia Agribusiness Council, the Virginia Retail Merchants Association, the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association, and other groups, the Virginia Wine Wholesalers Association appeared to have a stronger lobbying arm. The bill cannot be re-addressed by the House of Delegates until next year (or later) so the issue may be decided in court cases. HB 1435 was passed 75-25 by the Virginia House of Delegates. However, the Virginia Senate unanimously approved a substitute bill that says: "No locality may adopt any requirements for special exceptions or special use permits relating to licensed farm wineries that would be more restrictive than its requirements in effect as of Jan. 1, 2006. Further, any special exception or special use permit in effect as of Jan. 1, 2006, shall remain in effect until July 1, 2007, unless such exception or permit is either no longer required by the locality or is amended to be less restrictive."The Senate bill returned to the Virginia House of Delegates was wass passed 92-6. It will now go to Virginia's governor, who is expected to sign it into law. Since similar votes are being held in many states, the Specialty Wine Retailers Association (SWRA) was formed to "encourage states to create a borderless national wine marketplace that offers consumers more choice, lower pricing and more convenience, and offers states increased tax revenues." The association wants to "provide consumers with more transparency to what is available and more competitive pricing, which will help all tiers of the wine industry including wholesalers." In the meantime, keep we should all try to track of state shipping laws and carrier shipping policies. |
