| Our 2003
Cabernet Franc is now available for tasting and purchase. Similar
in nature to our 2002 vintage, the 2003 release has richer raspberry
and spice overtones. Only a few cases of the 2002 Cabernet Franc
remain. Stop by the winery and enjoy a glass. We are open daily from 11
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with other hours by appointment. We are always on the lookout for unique or locally-produced items to complement your favorite Pearmund Cellars wines. Our shelves and tables are getting so filled with wonderful products that we have now asked Brian to build more display areas. If you’re looking for a gift for the wine lover on your list, come see our new wine charms and jewelry. These distinctive, hand-crafted items feature the Pearmund Cellars welcome sign in their artwork. And, for those of you who just love our Wino Crossing signs, we are pleased to announce that they are back in stock along with new Wino Crossing magnets. You might also like to try one of our new sampler packs. Each package includes three bottles of wine at a discount price. They make great birthday gifts. Pick one up today! Of course, if you are too far away for a visit, please check to see if your local retailer carries our wine. If not ask them to contact us at 540-347-3475. |

Our Process |

| In the
Vineyard: We take different measures throughout the year
to create optimum growing conditions for our grapes. We just finished hand-pruning
our vines so that only the most vigorous canes and buds are ready for
new growth. We also performed detailed soil testing then
nourished each area of our vineyard with appropriate minerals
and compounds in specially-formulated fertilizers. We take pride in
the organic methods we use. Our organic measures include things
like using horse manure from local farms to create the best soil
conditions. Later in the season, we will spray the foliage with
various elemental nutrients and organic fungicides to make the
vines stronger and less susceptible to indigenous diseases. For more
information on our "Think Green" methods and to learn why Cooperative
Living recently praised our efforts, read "Our Industry" below. In the Winery: This spring, we will begin bottling our 2004 Riesling with screw caps. We are excited about this change and hope you will be too! Use of screw caps will prevent oxidation, will help keep the wine fresh and fruity longer, and will negate the risk of cork taint. The use of screw caps will not only make the wine taste better, but it will be easy to open, fit more easily into the side door of your refrigerator and last longer. Corks continue to be a hot topic of debate in wine circles. You have probably heard someone talk about “corked” wine, which refers to a wine that has been compromised by a fungus-produced chemical compound called 2,4,6-Trichloranisol (TCA). TCA occurs when chlorine used to bleach the corks is not properly rinsed and the cork is not allowed to dry properly. TCA causes wine to oxidize more quickly which in turn imparts musty flavors and aromas to the wine. Referred to as “cork taint” by industry insiders, it continues to be a problem for the entire wine industry. Industry research estimates that between 1 to 4 percent of all the wines sealed with natural corks are tainted. Recent technological advances have provided winemakers with different alternatives to natural cork. The use of synthetic corks and screw caps is becoming increasingly popular and recent studies have showed that the use of synthetic stoppers is improving the overall quality of the wine produced. Consumers are also beginning to understand and appreciate the use of synthetic stoppers. |

Our People |

| Romance was in
full swing at our Valentine’s Day dinner. Our Tastings Planner and
Assistant General Manager, Christopher Carpenter, asked his
girlfriend, Susan Gass-Kohtz, for her hand in marriage. She
said, "Yes," and the happy couple will say “I Do” on June 26th.
Christopher and Susan will make their home in Lexington, Virginia. Pearmund Cellars would like to welcome the Gainesville Florist as our new satellite sales location. Before getting on Route 66 in Gainesville, Virginia, stop by 14214 Lee Highway. You may also contact the store at (703) 754-1668 or visit their website. Wine and flowers always go together! |

| Partner: Grey
Horse Inn in The Plains, Virginia, is a faithful supporter of
Pearmund Cellars and other Virginia wineries. They offer a Wine
Country Tour Package with deluxe accommodations, full country
breakfast, picnic or luncheon, and limousine ride to premier locations
on the Blue
Ridge
WineWay. The next time you are planning to visit Pearmund
Cellars, call John and Ellen Hearty at (540) 253-7000 and
reserve one of their six luxuriously-appointed guestrooms. You
will love their country hospitality, antebellum antiques, and the
flexibility offered by their spontaneity club! Wine Store: Pearmund Cellars would like to welcome Giant Food in South Riding, Virginia, as one of our newest retailers. The store is showcasing Virginia wines and foods as a pilot project. Stop by 25050 Riding Plaza, #100, and tell their manager how much you appreciate this "Go Local" campaign. If the pilot is successful, Giant Foods plans to promote Virginia wines in its other stores. Call (703) 542-2950 for more information. Restaurant: Mike Kotarides at The Blue Crab is a big fan of Pearmund Cellars' wines. He recommends pairing our Viognier with his Macadamia Crusted Mahi-Mahi and Pineapple Mango Salsa. We heartily agree. Trying this combination at The Blue Crab in Norfolk, Virginia, is a perfect way to spend your evening, but if you would like to cook this delicious fish in your home, Mike has shared his recipe. Inn: Poplar Springs Inn Spa recently hosted a Pearmund Cellars winemaker's dinner at their Manor House in Casanova, Virginia. Besides enjoying their gourmet dinner in an elegant setting, some guests spent a lovely afternoon enjoying the spa's therapeutic massages, facials, and body treatments, then relaxed overnight under sumptuous goose down duvets and the finest imported linens. After hearing about their experience, we can't wait to try this ourselves! |
